Celebrating International Day of Education 2023

Published January 24, 2023

In recognition of International Day of Education on 24 January, we are excited to share progress on our global social sustainability initiative, Ardagh for Education.

We are giving back in the communities where our employees live and work by investing in education in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education. Our aim is to empower future generations by providing high-quality science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and best-in-class teacher training resources to local schools in Ardagh communities. We have partnered with non-profit organisations on both sides of the Atlantic to do just this.

In June 2021, we announced an investment of $50 million over 10 years with the goal of benefitting over 500,000 students and more than 5,000 teachers across 2,000 schools in our U.S. communities. We partnered with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to deliver STEM education to students from pre-kindergarten through high school (PreK-12). In just over 18 months, we’ve committed over $9 million to the PLTW programme in more than 385 schools across all 24 of our U.S. communities.

In October 2022, we announced an investment of €5 million over 10 years to provide STEM education and teacher training resources to primary and secondary schools in Germany in partnership with Wissensfabrik. Here we aim to reach over 200,000 students, and more than 1,100 teachers in over 350 schools. We are actively working in our local communities and engaging schools to participate in this initiative.

This exciting progress is just the beginning. We intend to launch similar education initiatives this year in Africa, Brazil and our other communities in Europe.
