Building the future with Ardagh for Education

Ardagh for Education is on track to bring hands-on, engaging, STEM-learning experiences to more than 1.2 million students and upskill 10,000 teachers in more than 2,500 schools over a ten-year period. The programme is introduced to students in early childhood education through secondary school and beyond, preparing learners for the ‘real world’. Through our partnerships with education agencies in each of our regions, we equip schools with tools and materials that enable learners to gain hands-on experience in areas such as robotics, engineering and construction. But before students get their hands on these learning materials, it’s essential that we ‘train the trainers’ – teachers must first get to grips with the lessons and materials.
Colleagues in Brazil and Germany visited Ardagh for Education schools to observe how the programme is benefiting teachers and students to learn about the progress the programme is making.
In Brazil, Lego kits were delivered to more than 50 schools across three cities, with 192 teachers trained in using the kits. This support will make an enormous difference to schools in underprivileged areas. For example, one of our partner schools in Alagoinhas is a rural ‘quilombola’ school – a school in an area first established by escaped slaves. In Manaus, Ardagh for Education is supporting an indigenous school accessible only via a two-hour boat journey.
Meanwhile, in Germany, approximately 130 schools and 300 teachers are part of our collaboration with Wissensfabrik. In Wahlstedt, teachers from the Poul Due Jensen School organised independent KiTec training. Dedicated teachers from Ardagh for Education partner schools exchanged ideas and strategies for a sustainable future while experimenting with Wissensfabrik’s City4Future materials. In Nienburg, Kindergarten Johannisbär received their KiTec materials allowing little artists to create little wooden discs decorated with colourful thread.
